Présentée à La maison rouge de février à mai 2015, l’exposition Fatum réunit pour la première fois à Paris un ensemble très important d’œuvres de l’artiste Jérôme Zonder (né à Paris en 1974).
Dessinateur virtuose, Zonder a imaginé spécialement pour La maison rouge un parcours labyrinthique invitant le visiteur à déambuler à l’intérieur même du dessin, qui investit murs et sols. L’exposition propose donc un cheminement à la fois spatial et mental dans les préoccupations de l’artiste. Celles-ci touchent autant à la technique par la multiplicité de ses pratiques graphiques (toujours en noir et blanc) qu’à l’exploration des limites du dessin. Zonder, enfant du XXe siècle, obnubilé par l’inexorabilité de la violence humaine, scrute, « creuse » l’histoire de l’art et du cinéma, la violence de la grande et de la petite histoire comme le passage fascinant de l’enfance à l’adolescence. Ces différents registres narratifs se mêlent et se chevauchent dans une œuvre complexe, qui nous ébranle et nous interroge sur notre rapport à la représentation et à la réalité.
On show at La maison rouge from February to May 2015, Fatum is the first Parisian exhibition to feature a sizeable selection of works by Jérôme Zonder (born 1974, Paris).
For this show Zonder, a virtuoso of drawing, has turned La maison rouge into a labyrinthine sequence in which visitors are invited to move around inside the drawings themselves, which cover the walls and floors. The exhibition thus offers a spatial and mental path through the artist’s concerns. These touch both on technique, through the multiplicity of his graphic practices (always in black and white), and the limits of drawing. Deeply marked by the tragedies of the 20th century and obsessed with the inexorability of human violence, Zonder examines and digs into the history of art and cinema, the violence of history both public and private, and also the fascinating transition from childhood to adolescence. These different narrative registers combine and overlap in a complex body of work which challenges us and queries our relation to representation and reality.
